How do I create webpages?

If you have never built a website before, the best thing to do would be to start by getting familiar with basic HTML and how to create webpages.

NOTE: All of your webpages filenames must be saved with the extension .html or .htm, or the browser will not recognize that it is meant to be a webpage, and it will not be displayed.

1.) Create your homepage. The homepage that you create must be saved with the filename index.html or index.htm
2.) Create your other webpages. You can give these pages any filename that you choose but their extension must be either .html or .htm

Do I get any webspace to host my own website?

Each customer on our networks receives their own web storage on our servers. This allows you to host your own website. To do this, go to the website home.monarch.net and login with your password. Click on webspace to create or modify your webspace. The URL for your webspace will look something like this:

    www.monarch.net/users/webspacename

NOTE: "webspacename" is whatever name you choose to give your webspace. You will need to remember that name for when you upload your website, it will be your username when logging into your webspace.

How do I upload my website to my webspace?

Once you have your webspace created on our servers, you need to upload your website to the webspace so that your website is available on the Internet.

1.) First of all you need an FTP client to upload your website. You can download an FTP client off of the Internet from many websites, such as Download.com or any Tucows site. An example of an FTP client would be Leech FTP.

2.) Once you have an FTP client downloaded and installed on your computer, you will need the following information to login:

    FTP Site: ftp.monarch.net
Username: - webspacename (see above FAQ) -
    Password: - your password -

3.) Once you login you will see a directory called bin. Don't worry, its a default folder which will always be there.

4. With your ftp client, upload your newly created pages into your directory. Path should be / in your ftp client.

Can someone access my hard drive because I am on the network?

The information on your hard drive is safe from prying eyes as long as you don't execute the file sharing option offered in Windows 95/98. If you must set up your computer for file sharing, it would be wise to password protect the information.

Do I get a static IP?

No, each residential customer receives a non-static IP. For more information on this feature please e-mail mnetsupport@monarch.net.

How do I check my e-mail from another computer?

To access your email from another computer with Internet access, open the web browser and go to the website webmail.monarch.net . You will be asked for a User ID. The User ID is the first part for your email address.

Ex: If your email address is johndoe@monarch.net, then the User ID would be johndoe.

You will also be required to enter in a password, the password you enter is the password that was used when creating that specific email address. Once you have logged in, you will be able to receive and reply to your messages using this service.

NOTE: Your e-mail program cannot be running on your home machine while on vacation (if it has not been instructed to leave mail on the server) because it will remove your messages from the server.
