Cable vs. Satellite What do you get with Cable that you don't get with Satellite? All The Important Things! With Cable you get low-cost installation on every TV in your home. Satellite companies generally require customers to buy costly receivers for each set on which you want to watch their service. Installation is expensive, often hundreds of dollars for each set. Some satellite companies require customers to pay for a full year of service in advance! With Cable you get local channels and networks. Satellite companies require an antenna or a basic cable subscription to get local channels. With Cable you get better customer service. Satellite companies don't always offer local repair or customer service. Customers are generally required to purchase their own equipment and become totally responsible for maintenance and repair. Equipment may need to be shipped back to the manufacturer for repair. With Cable you get the Total Home Communications package. Satellite companies may provide Internet access, but a phone line is needed for two-way communication. It may never be as fast as cable or as reasonably priced. Plus, most satellite customers are required to purchase their own equipment. With Cable you get local support in your community. Satellite companies are national or international and rarely have a local office or telephone number. They seldom, if ever, support the local community at any level.
